The OpAbominable Snowman was originally planned to be a big kickoff game to start the year 2017 right. What better way than with a bunch of toy guns, good friends and really bad snowmen costumes? The AO (Area of Operations) was the Abandoned House field. Smaller than what I am used to but big enough to get some great game types in. There is an abandoned barn off center to the field with scattered farm equipment here and there. But the best part was the fact that the parking lot was right next to the field. Thank goodness because the trek through the snow would have killed us all. Ok, maybe just me because the snow got up to 3 feet and I haven't been doing cardio. Anyways, we were estimating on about 45ish people showing up. Or that's how many registered anyways. (Shameless plugin: sign up on airsoftc3.com for future event info) Because this is airsoft a few people had real life hit them and took them from us, leaving us to about 40 players. Which was still very, very healthy for our game and AO size. The Factions The two factions for this game was the RUSFOR and the UKE. The RUSFOR is a top tier Russian Special Ops unit, their job is to capture a High Value Ukrainian Nationalist leader and extract as much information as possible before eliminating their target. -Uniform. Top and bottom camouflage is required. No coloration or pattern requirements, but it must be a matching set. The Ukrainian Nationalist Elite is a group of unorganized and untrained individuals. But they should not be underestimated, their strength is in numbers, and their passion to defend their home. -Uniform: Civilian and Mercenary loadouts only. No matching camouflage sets, solid colors and civilian clothes only Finally there was a third faction... One so secretive only a handful of people knew about this. So secretive, I wont tell you until a certain part of the AAR. Originally, I wanted to be UKE because I love my plaid and jean combo but the higher-beings-that-be asked me and my squad to join RUSFOR. Its ok, Megazord Squad was ready to rock and roll. For this AAR, we will be following a first-person account of RUSFOR Sergeant Leon. Leon was using a custom King Arms Magpul M16 with a 4x scope and acted as the squads designated marksman. Act I: The CaptureThe RUSFOR made the drop to a certain farmland on the Ukranian border that was known to house a Ukranian National Elite leader. It was time to take this guy in and end the resistence that the UNE was giving. 3 of our squads made it to a rendezvous point, located at the edge of the farm inside of a train car. Alpha, Bravo and Megazord was tasked with hitting the farmhouse and taking in the UKE leader. Unfortunately, the leader was tipped off and knew we were coming. We only had 15 minutes and we had to make that count. Megazord was going to lead a frontal assault while Alpha and Bravo flanked to the South and surrounded the building. Megazord moved forward with a charge and seperated into two fireteams, Red Tyrannosaurus and White Tiger. Red took the trench line to the North of the building while White hit directly to the West of the building. Concentrating fire on two UKE that tried to cover the North flank, Megazord terminated Op4 and moved forward. Im not sure who made the kills but we all laid down hate in that direction. Red proceeded to take the trench while White inched towards the barricaded windows of the farmhouse. Alpha and Bravo was engaged in their own firefights to the South. At this time we were essentially cut off from them and this is when training had to kick in. Megazord was going to complete their objective at any cost. I zeroed in on two targets sharing a window and took them down after sending a flurry of shots in the direction. I found myself moving up with Cpl. Smith, the squad Machine Gunner, and we found a focused kill zone and had all windows covered. Cpl. Smith was going to work as he took a round to the shoulder. Cpl. Dom ,our Medic, rushed over to bandage the wound as I gave covering fire with Smith's MG42. Fireteam Red found themselves directly to the North and applied intense pressure to the building. Cpl. Dane rushed to the side of the building and threw in a pyro grenade and killed one UKE and disorienting the others. Red moved in towards the North door while White was providing over watch with the exception of Dane also moving into the house. Red linked up with a member of Alpha as they moved into the building and secured the leader with 3 minutes to spare. We were clear for now, but first it was time for Megazord to clear the kitchen for any food. Act II: RetaliationWord got back out to the UKE that our little Task Force had taken one of their main leaders. They were coming with a large force and they wanted their man back. But we only had 15 minutes until we could extract the UKE leader and have reinforcements arrive. We barely dug ourselves in as the UKE hit us from the same direction we came from. Hard to believe they were right behind us. Megazord hit the North trenches as we left two of our Machine Gunners and one DMR to defend the barn. Alpha stayed within to support and Charlie hit to the South. A few of our men laid out lifelessly in the snow, fueling our rage to keep the UKE out. As soon as we saw movement we rushed to our positions. The height of the snow taking its toll on our legs. Almost like running through water but harder. We hit the trench and I took a position overlooking the eastern treeline while Cpl. Parker moved up about 40 feet to my right and laid down accurate suppressing fire. Our medic stood behind me as we took shots as they presented themselves. I caught glimpse of an Elite's head sticking out from tree cover. I pulled my trigger three times and one round found its mark. I spotted another two sprinting from tree to tree, luckily for them I missed. Another UKE showed himself to the right side of my killing field. I shot a few times but I made him reconsider his options. The two I missed earlier took aim at the medic and I and gave us a volley of shots. I was confident that I could acquire my targets before they could get me. Thank goodness I was right. But my medic was not as fortunate as he was critically wounded and transported back to the farmhouse in need of more precise medical attention. We held our ground and took out any more UKE that hit the treeline. A member of Alpha rushed out to the trench with us and requested we take the fight to the UKE. Of course Megazord wasn't going to back down from this challenge and we sprinted through the snow. The Alpha member lead the war and started engaging with the enemy. I rushed forward with Parker to my six. We flanked a group of UKE to their North and made short work of them. We focused out attention on the UKE that were pouring in from the West, I took down three as a round struck me in my chest knocking me down and out of the fight. I laid there bleeding out as I watched the Alpha team member go down as well as the rest of my team. The light was fading from my eyes but I heard explosions as I drifted in and out of consciousness. Then the sounds of helicopter blades thumped closer and closer, I was able to make out radio transmissions saying that reinforcements arrived. Our objective achieved, but at the cost of a majority of our squad. Act III: The AwakeningI blinked my eyes open and found myself laying on a stretcher with the other wounded members of the Megazord squad. I made eye contact with the Crew Chief and made hand signals for a headset. I forced myself to sit up as I happened to witness what was happening on the ground. The UKE leader was taken and extracted for intel. But there was still fighting on the ground. A crater could be seen to the north of the AO with 6 figures coming out and moving towards the RUSFOR and UKE fighting in the farmland. Trying to get a closer look I found a pair of binoculars and zoomed in on them. These 6 figures were covered in white, some in fur and some in scales. The on in the front seemed to be barking orders at the others while having a heavier set of armor. All of these creatures were carrying weapons that out men were using. A science experiment gone wrong maybe? This group moved forward as the leader opened fire on parts of Bravo squad, the rest soon followed slaughtering what was left of Bravo squad. I screamed for the helicopter pilot to get down there and remove the threat, but we were told to stand down and observe the scene from the higher brass. I watched in terror as these lifeforms continued to mow down all living beings within the vicinity. Thousands of rounds bounced off of them as if they were nothing. There was no prejudice. They killed RUSFOR and UKE alike. With stunning efficiency these creatures swarmed any and all strongholds on the map. The snow creatures hunted until there was nothing left. There was no screaming, no yelling, just silence and the thumps of the helicopter blades cutting through the air. I made eye contact with the others with a look of helplessness and fear. Act IV: The ExtinctionOur helicopter was ordered to stay in hovering position as we watched the snow men roam the winter wasteland. Airstrikes were not sanctioned because there was a possibility of living RUSFOR survivors. But we could not stand by for long, or else these creatures would be lost to our sensors. Heat sensors were not working and their natural white camouflage made them harder to see. Which is why our chopper had to keep watch. I could overhear transmissions of the UKE rebels calling for a truce at least until these creatures could be taken out. The RUSFOR accepted the truce as the two factions combined their knowledge of the creatures. As the temperature rose during the day the creatures released bulbous sacks on their backs as a way to cool themselves down. These sacks were vital organs necessary to keeping the creatures alive. Pinpoint precision was the only way to take these things down. They were going to throw everything they could at these creatures and to keep them from being unleashed on the unsuspecting world. The uneasy alliance rushed the last known location of the pack of monsters. But they were no where to be found. Then the roaring began. One by one the snowmen started to reveal themselves and began to hammer the house. The humans took heavy casualties and the sacs on the backs of the creatures were not very easy to destroy. Although, with human valiance and courage the vital organs began to burst. One by one. The house was eventually surrounded but the humans kept fighting on. The snowmen's roars filled the air with an anger that could not be reproduced. Soon, one snowman that had sacks on its legs fell. Then another with three on its back. Not without a heavy price, though. Russian and Ukraine blood alike both spilled on the white snow. How long were we going to keep this up? After what seemed like an eternity of fighting the monsters and the elements we narrowed it down to the leader of the group. With hardened scales and a big gun it was not going down without a fight. It let off burst after burst of rounds as it took a position to the North of the barn. Killing as many humans as it could. Filled with rage and bloodlust the creature mowed down all that stood in his way. Until the lone Alpha member that led the assault on the UKE base snuck up behind the beast and struck it down with his knives. It laid there and let out its final breath and went cold. Cheers could be heard for miles. The threat was terminated. But this victory was short lived. A command over the radio barked out an order. One that seemed unmoral. RUSFOR was to turn on their UKE allies and eliminate the threat right then and there. The UKE was surprised but they fought back. For a few seconds at least, but the element of surprise overtook them. The RUSFOR stood victorious. I watched and could not help but think, maybe we were the real monsters. All we did was wake those creatures and invade their territory. It was a defense instinct. But for us we were to be the aggressors and we achieved our objectives with cold blood. What was left of the RUSFOR loaded up on their transports and we bugged out. Hoping to never come back to this frozen Hell ever again. I looked at the other wounded in my squad, gave a slight smile and looked forward as we flew off. But I couldn't help but hear a faint familiar roar in the distance... Maybe I was just hallucinating. I don't care, I just wanted to go home. The EndThat AAR was written very much differently that what I am normally used to. I felt like a very fictional story needed to be written like one so here is the basis for your next military horror hit! All of the snowmen were pretty bad actors but we all had a ton of fun with it. No one saw the snowmen coming. Even with the name in the title but you could see light bulbs going off once two and two was put together. Overall, this was an awesome event and was seriously one of the better games I have ever been to in Idaho. There was a bunch of great guys and some great games! I definitely would not mind attending a game with these game masters again in the future! Be sure to look out for future games by going to airsoftc3.com and by looking up "East Idaho Airsoft" on Facebook and I promise you will not be disappointed.
Big thanks to Deheader for giving us some footage of what happened and for Joseph and Derrick for setting this event up and giving it an awesome story! Be on the lookout for my video that happened to be on top of Colin's head. Until next time! #StayFrosty
