Eye Pro, first line and last lineToday we are going to talk about one of the most basic and needed pieces of kit. Its not the gun, not the camo, not the boots, heck, its something that often gets forgotten because we dont think about it sometimes. The FundamentalsEye Protection or EyePro is by far one of the most important pieces of kit that an airsofter can have. You straight up cannot fight if you cant see and all it takes is two simple shots to lose your sight. Or if youre incredibly lucky like some of us, its only one shot. Some of you may be thinking ,”But Special Ops dont wear eyepro and theyre dodging real bullets!” Well Ill tell you right now, that is completely wrong. Sure you’ll see some guys here and there not rocking much PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) but let’s be honest, the less you have then the less youre going to have to protect vital parts of your body. Like your eyes Just look below for some more well known guys wearing eye pro. Airsoft, Milsim, BB WarzSo, maybe we get it now. We get how important eyes are in this highspeed 6mm world. So let me grab my sunglasses from the gas station or my ski goggles and lets pew! No please stop, Ill let this video explain why thats a bad idea. What was the difference? The first set was ANSI Z87.1 rated, the second was simply not. Not convinced yet? Heres another vid. You’re EyePro at a minimum needs to be Ansi Z87.1 rated. Any less and youre asking for a problem. You only have two eyes, dont risk them. I only have one eye but that was from birth, not being dumb. You need to be sure to get the best possible EyePro but it doesnt need to be an Oakley that costs over 200 bucks. Theres good EyePro for less than 50 bucks out there. Ive heard of players taking off glasses because they fog. Maybe invest in some thermals or good fans for goggles. Dont go to mesh territory, mesh goggles actually create a shotgun effect into your eyes if a BB shatters on them. Which can be even worse. Then Id suggest a full seal. Glasses work fine but you have gaps that a BB can fly through. In the lead picture of this article you can see how I had a shot that was close to my eye. Believe it or not I was wearing full seal goggles. They were the Lancer Tactical X800 goggles. Im not sure what happened but Im definitely not taking anymore chances with that pair of goggles. The BB just somehow entered through my goggles and hit just under my eye. It was a super scary experience but I vowed to get a better set of eyepro so that would never happen again. Bottom LineGet a great pair of full seal eyepro. Have a question as to goggles that dont fog? Send me a message and Ill help. Something to fit over eyeglasses? Ill do the same. Just stay safe out there. With Murphy and his laws out there, anything can happen. Take risks but if you can control some risks then opt out of it. Like keeping your eyes safe. I promise youll never regret it.
